OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION OF BYLAWS MANDATED REQUIREMENT
The California Council of Chapters (CAL-MOAA) does not send affiliated chapters an invoice for the annual dues payment. The amount must be calculated by the chapters.
Each affiliated chapter pays dues to the Council in the amount of $0.75 per regular member as of December 31, 2006.
In late October 2006 at Sacramento, site of the EXCOM meeting and Council of Presidents annual meeting, COL Pete Peterka, USA (RET), president of Redwood Empire Chapter, made a formal presentation telling the Council that his officers, directors and members could see little return on the dues investment. And in short, they were placing the Council on probation, in effect holding the 2007 dues payment until there was evidence that the Council made a substantial contribution to his and other affiliated chapters.
COL Peterka participated fully in Rally 2006, observing the Council’s activities, and watching CAL-MOAA officers and directors conduct the Council’s business.
In the following months, the Council posted a series of items to the weblog explaining in detail how the Council represents affiliated chapters to the wider military communities, including in part Washington, D.C. and Sacramento; how the Council plans and coordinates a wide variety of events, activities and actions related to current issues; and, how the Council uses the website and weblog to communicate up and down the State of California, keeping chapters right up to date on news, information, viewpoints and opinion.
On 24 February 2007, COL Peterka attended the EXCOM meeting at Vandenberg AFB and again participated fully. He later commented openly that he thought the meeting was a good one, very useful, very informative, and he was pleased with the outcome.
At the time Col Arthur “Ike” Isensee, USMC (Ret), CAL-MOAA treasurer, delivered the financial report he noted that a number of chapters had already submitted their 2007 dues, and he made it a point to to announce that Redwood Empire Chapter was the first to pay dues this year.
After the EXCOM meeting, in a series of e-mail communications, COL Peterka again said that he was very pleased with the Council. He was obviously impressed with the Council’s efforts and especially with the recent EXCOM meeting and proceedings.
It would be important now for chapter presidents to inform treasurers of the CAL-MOAA dues requirement, ask the treasurer to calculate the total dues payment, and submit a check as soon as possible but no later than April 1, 2007.
Chapters should send a check to the Council’s treasurer, Col Ike Isensee, USMC (Ret), along with a dues calculation (number of regular members as of December 31, 2006 X $0.75), at 16769 Thomas White Drive, Riverside, CA 92518-2925, telephone (951) 697-2609, e-mail ikeisensee@earthlink.net.
