LATE PACKETS MAILED FROM CALIFORNIA, SHOULD ARRIVE SOON
The 2007 Give Me 10! program is underway, yet the information and support kits due from the vendor, J. Walter Thompson, Inc, are more than a month late but finally on the way.
Give Me 10! totals will be posted on the MOAA website beginning the week of April 1 with state breakdowns sent to Council presidents. As of the end of March, more than 300 new members have been recruited, moving to the 2007 goal of 2,600, up slightly from last year’s 2,500+.
Chapters are being encouraged to participate fully in this year’s campaign, ending the year with a minimum of 10 new members. In addition, and following the philosophy “every member is a recruiter,” chapter members should be encouraged to recruit at least 1 new member each this year.
These are the current recruiting incentives:
–$10 for each new paid membership;
–$20 for a life membership (new or converted);
–$100 bonus (one time) for first 10 paying members who signed up;
–$1,000 for chapters that recruit the most new members, with prizes awarded in categories based on chapter size.
In addition, for each new member recruited, chapter recruiters earn an entry to an end-of-contest sweepstakes. The winning recruiter will receive a $1,000 prize and the new member associated with the winning entry receives a national Life Membership and $500.
As of September, 2006 there were new incentives in effect, which allow chapters to offer active duty or currently serving Guard or Reserve officers a free, one-year membership in national MOAA.
Additionally, any council that signs up 75% of its chapters for “Give Me 10!,” and has those chapters recruit 10 new members each, receives “An Evening With MOAA.” A member of MOAA’s leadership team will host a dinner for council and chapter presidents at a time and place of their choosing.
The Northeast Arkansas Chapter recruited 63 new members during 2005 and during the campaign the chapter paid the dues needed to join national MOAA. New members were also given a free, one year chapter membership.
Here’s how much the effort actually cost the chapter using the following formula, considering the annual dues were $24:
10 new members @ $24 cost $240
$10 received for each member recruited $100
$100 after recruiting 10 members $100
Net cost to the chapter $40
Here was the sales pitch used: “This offer will not cost you any money or take any of your time. We welcome you to attend our MOAA chapter meetings, but you’re not required to, and we won’t bug you about it.”
Full information about the 2007 campaign is available at the MOAA website here: http://www.moaa.org/comm/comm_chapters/comm_chapters_leaders/comm_chapters_givemeten/index.htm
With the potential for both national and local chapter free first year memberships available, the probability of achieving 10 new members in 2007 is very high.
