CAL-MOAA CAPTURES TOP AWARDS IN TWO CATEGORIES
Recently during the “Storming the Hill” event in Washington, D.C. Council President LtCol Larry Stumpf, USAF-Ret accepted two 2006 communications awards given the Council.
And within the past few days, a general announcement of winners was made in “The Affiliate.”
The Council’s website has been named 1st Place Winner in the nation.
The site provides links to Council management and administration, late news, and newsletters published by affiliated chapters.
Here’s a hearty “Congratulations!” to CDR Robert Burke, USN (RET), Website/Communications Chair, and to Webmaster Gloria, who is responsible for website design, development, operations and maintenance. The website can be viewed here: http://www.cal-moaa.org/
In addition, CAL-MOAA received the top special recognition award for using a unique form of communication to stay in touch with current members, recruit new members, and reach out to legislators–the weblog feature.
The weblog allows almost instant communication with Council members throughout California, providing late news, information, opinion, viewpoints and commentary.
It is an interactive technology which allows all members to participate actively. Over the past year and a half more than 500 items have been posted to the weblog. The weblog can be viewed here: http://www.cal-moaa.org/blog/.
In the past some chapter presidents have complained that the Council has not been communicating effectively with the membership. These awards are evidence that great progress is being made reaching everyone in a timely manner.
According to a National MOAA spokesman, “MOAA council and chapter leaders do an outstanding job communicating with their members. That’s why we take time each year to recognize our best communicators. We thank the editors and webmasters who entered the 2006 Communications Award Contest–and congratulate the winners.”
