COUNCIL MEETS IN SAN LUIS OBISPO NOVEMBER 30-DECEMBER 1-2

The Council of Presidents will conduct its annual meeting at the Embassy Suites Hotel, San Luis Obispo, from Friday evening to Sunday morning, November 30-December 1-2, 2007.

Some weeks ago an alert was put out recommending that presidents with specific interests, desires, or wishes for the program content or process should start to make their needs known soon.

We’re pleased to say that there have been some recommendations, and specifically for the kinds of speakers to be invited, and particularly for Saturday evening banquet speaker.

There are some very interesting personalities who are likely to accept an invitation to speak and otherwise spend time in the business and social sessions.

San Luis Obispo is a beautiful city any time of the year with access to the seashore areas of Morro Bay, Avila Beach, and Pismo Beach, and the weather is likely to be very pleasant during the annual meeting period. It’s a college town and there are lots of young people around, and the central area of the city features a running stream, beautiful park complex, buildings with unique architecture, and is just a very pleasant place to enjoy the out-of-doors and relax for a time.

San Luis Obispo is located on California’s scenic Central Coast about midway in the state, making it convenient for many of our presidents, even those in the far north reaches of Shasta and Trinity counties and the Southern California enclaves of San Diego and the eastern desert areas. Travel to the meeting location should be reasonably comfortable with costs kept to a minimum.

The hotel room will be about $120 plus taxes with members required to pay the hotel directly; the meals will be very nice at reasonable cost and payment will be made to a Central Coast Chapter planner.

The meeting likely will get underway with an Executive Committee (EXCOM) meeting and social hour Friday evening with all day Saturday dedicated to the Council’s business affairs. We anticipate a series of speakers and/or workshops and seminars. Saturday evening will feature a gala banquet with installation of the new president and vice president and remarks by a distinguished keynote speaker.

As the year progresses the challenges will keep coming and the isssues will be clarified. The reason for the annual meeting is to assess where the Council has been and where it is going in the coming year, and of course plan support for affiliated chapters.

Presidents are invited to help identify the issues to be raised at the meeting, determine an appropriate venue, recommend how information might be provided and problems solved, and suggest names of speakers and/or facilitators they would like to hear from and with whom they would like to work. Council President LtCol Larry Stumpf, USAF-Ret would like to hear soon from presidents with ideas to make the annual meeting meaningful and profitable.

The Embassy Suites is an attractive and comfortable facility with all the amenities, the chef and assistants are talented and will produce memorable meals, and there is plenty of room for the Council’s business meetings and social functions.

Presidents throughout California are invited to put the meeting dates on the calendar and plan to attend and participate fully. In addition, presidents are urged to invite the members of their chapters to attend as well. The annual meeting is going to be a time to meet others and complete a very profitable learning experience.
