ANOTHER “GIVE ME 10!” SUCCESS STORY WITH ADVICE
In the 2006 “Give Me 10!” Campaign, the El Paso (Texas) Chapter took an early lead in Category X (500+ members) and ended the campaign with 210 total new MOAA members. The chapter launches an all-out recruiting effort targeting every group of potential members, including former MOAA members, former officers, reservists, and National Guard. The success was a chapter effort with many members contributing.
One of the keys to the chapter’s success was raising the awareness of MOAA in the community by actively networking with local veterans service and military service organizations and supporting groups at Ft. Bliss such as the Fisher House, and helping to sponsor deploying unit events and the Army-Navy football game viewing at the Ft Bliss O-Club.
But personal face-to-face contact remained the most effective way to recruit new members. Chapter members talked to potential members whenever they came in contact with officers both on base and off and had membership applications with them to get prospective members to fill them out on the spot.
The chapter prepared their own membership applications based on MOAA’s format to further personalize their campaign. In addition, the chapter offered their own incentives to officers who joined national MOAA.
