MANY GOOD REASONS TO ATTEND LATE 2007 ANNUAL MEETING
The Council of Presidents has set this year’s annual meeting for the Embassy Suites Hotel, San Luis Obispo, November 30-December 2, 2007, in order to carry out the bylaws-mandated session where chapter presidents “shall review for approval or modification the actions of the president and Executive Committee (EXCOM) since the last meeting of the Council.”
More important perhaps, the presidents will have an opportunity to determine the Council’s direction for calendar year 2008, presenting the EXCOM with updated goals and objectives to be pursued and achieved in the near to intermediate future.
In short, then, the annual meeting will be a time for assessment and operational planning.
Chapter presidents might want to use the late summer and autumn months to survey their chapters, identify wants and needs, and be prepared to present motions or resolutions as appropriate.
In general, the areas of concern are likely to include the Council’s efforts to represent the chapters to MOAA National, the Congress of the United States, and the California Legislature; the planning and coordination of statewide activities and events; finally, the effectiveness and efficiency of statewide interpersonal and interorganizational communications.
The focus will be on support provided MOAA National, state legislation, and chapter support.
Planning has been underway for some weeks yet there is still plenty of time for presidents and others to make recommendations about both content and process. For example, does the annual meeting work best when a series of experts are invited to speak to the issues or when presidents are given time in small session to share their opportunities and problems and in turn hear about “best practices?”
Chapter presidents who would like items placed on the agenda are urged to contact Council president LtCol Larry Stumpf, USAF-Ret without delay.
The San Luis Obispo weekend is not going to be all work and no play. There will be plenty of opportunity for social interaction during the breaks and mealtimes. In addition, for those so inclined to schedule another day or two on the Central Coast, there is much to see and do; it’s going to be an ideal time to be near the beaches.
This meeting, as so often the case, is open to all MOAA members in California. Chapter presidents are urged to communicate Council information to members and invite them to attend the annual meeting, and particularly those who might have a potential interest in state level service.
The annual meeting is going to be a wonderful opportunity to see old friends and make new ones, do the Council’s business, and really make a difference.
