    ALL MUST CONTRIBUTE TO SAN LUIS OBISPO AGENDA

    The EXCOM is moving ahead with planning for the November 30-Dec 1, 2 2007 Council of Presidents meeting in San Luis obispo.

    Of primary concern right now is preparation of an effective agenda, and for that assistance is needed by everyone.

    These are some of the things we know:

    Generally, people will look forward to any meeting that they attend, routine or not routine, if:

    –They view attendance at a meeting as an opportunity to achieve personal goals and to satisfy their special needs or wants, and

    –The believe that the meeting will contribute something toward achieving the goals of their organization, specifically affiliated chapters.

    It’s important to give everyone an opportunity to provide input to the agenda, and we’re starting early so there will be plenty of time to do that.

    When the meeting agenda is distributed, every effort will be made to insure that:
    –the agenda has been properly prepared;
    –that it is sent to the right persons;
    –that it goes out on time;
    –that an allowance is made for additions and subtractions;
    –and that all the presentations are listed.

    Council President LtCol Larry Stumpf, USAF-Ret isn’t going to send out the agenda until he:
    –is satisfied with the agenda;
    –that the agenda is clear to all;
    –that any time limitations are appropriate;
    –and that the agenda fits the purpose of the meeting.

    It will be important for everyone attending the meeting to:
    –make sure the agenda is understood;
    –know that additions and subtractions can be made prior to start;
    –identify exactly at what point a contribution can be made;
    –determine if the agenda does in fact meet the basic purpose for attending the meeting.

    Over time more specific information about the meeting purposes will be provided. But in general terms it might be said that the upcoming annual meeting should serve to:

    –define the Council as a working team;
    –revise, update, add to group knowledge;
    –increase individual understanding;
    –make group decisions;
    –and build commitment to group decisions.

    We want this year’s meeting to be highly effective.

    It would be important for all chapter presidents to share their thinking about the basic purpose of this year’s meeting beyond what is stated in the bylaws.

    And it is extremely important that presidents share their personal expectations for the meeting.

    Presidents should contact Larry Stumpf early and state their special needs and wants, how their expectations can be met efficiently, and especially how meeting activities will contribute positively to the local chapter’s requirements.
