    TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WEBLOG TECHNOLOGY!

    The editor of the Silicon Valley Chapter newsletter, “The Bulletin,” is constantly asking members to submit story ideas for publication.

    And, when he is short of material for an upcoming issue he threatens the chapter by saying, in short, that if nothing comes in by the deadline date he will publish his baby pictures. Right there dead center on page 1.

    There has been some feedback that we often post items “that have been in the newspaper or otherwise carried by other media, or material that is inappropriate for this organization’s weblog.” Perhaps. But often times it’s the equivalent of our baby pictures.

    We posted past items because:

    (1) our members might want to know what is going on in the wider military and general communities;

    (2) often times the post provides an opportunity for chapters to support organizations with similar missions, groups trying to help armed forces personnel, and thereby make a direct or indirect contribution to the military community;

    (3) the items were provided by interested persons who thought they were had general news interest and value and took the time to share with us;

    (4) and because most members are just not participating, not taking advantage of the weblog technology, not contributing items for posting, not sharing the news, information, opinion, viewpoints, and commentary.

    We’ve been very close from time to time having to post our baby pictures.

    The weblog is available to everyone–and it’s easy to post an item. The technology is relatively easy to use; however, members can get something posted quickly simply by sending the item to warren@cal-moaa.org or by telephone, or by U.S. Postage.

    There’s are a lot of interesting things going on with our chapters, lessons being learned, that can and should be shared with others throughout California. All members are urged to post items and comments to the weblog on a regular basis.

    Or there will be a lot of baby pictures, or the equivalent, showing up on the weblog.

      Hello, Fred

      I can only answer your questions about the Weblog. I have forwarded your email to Warren Enos.

      As for the Weblog login ID, unfortunately Weblogs are targeted by spammers so it is impossible to do away with the separate login ID. It would render the Weblog unusable in short order. I understand your frustration as a user but the required login is necessary for security reasons.

      The Weblog will not allow email addresses to be used for the user name. This is something I can not change. Again it is a security issue. It’s far too easy for spammers to spoof email addresses, not to mention scrapping them from Websites in order to send out their spam. Even if it were possible to change the login ID to users email address, I would not recommend it.

      The Weblog does have a cookie. When you login there is a small check box that says “Remember me”. If checked and if you do not logout, the system will remember you when you return. You will remain logged in as long as you do not logout.

      Your user name for the Weblog is *********, the email address you used when you signed up for an account was ***********************. You can use that email address to get a new password. I can not retrieve passwords, they are encrypted for security reasons. You can also change your password yourself once you are logged in. Or, I can change it and send you the info.

      Hope this answered your questions about the Weblog ID’s.

      Gloria

      Good explanation.

      A problem will be that I no longer have a comcast account!

      My notifications from CAL-MOAA come to ******************* - any chance you can change the ‘registered’ email address to that.

      If you’d change my password and email it to me, I’ll try to make it something ’standard’ for me! Thanks!
