    ADJUTANT GENERAL SUPPORTS ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP

In a letter directed to California National Guard personnel 15 March 2007, Major General William H. Wade II, the Adjutant General, suggested it would be useful to become acquainted with and support a military professional association.

His statement should be helpful when approaching National Guard officers for membership, demonstrating that membership in such organizations is appropriate and has value.

    Here is General Wade’s letter:

    SUBJECT: Support for Professional Associations

    1. I strongly support and encourge membership in such professional military organizations that exist to support us either as members of the National Guard or in our professional capacities. While membership remains a personal choice, it is my hope and desire that individual Guard members will consider joining any professional military organization(s) which they find of interest. It is important that we take advantage of every avenue available for professional information, development, education, and involvement.

    2. I do not endorse any specific military organizations. However, I do encourage you to consider the benefits of membership in organizations such as: The National Guard Association of California (NGAC), The National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS), the Enlisted Association of the National Guard Association of the United States (EANGUS), The United States Army Warrant Officers Association (USAWOA), Sergeants Major Association (SMA), Association of the United States Army (AUSA) and the Air Force Association (AFA). This is not intended to be inclusive of all the professional organizations which provide benefits to you and the California National Guard. I urge you to explore the benefits of membership these and any other professional organizations which benefit the California National Guard.

    3. Thank you for your contributions to the California National Guard.

    WILLIAM H. WADE II
    Major General
    The Adjutant General

    DISTRIBUTION
    A, F

An easy approach to the National Guard officer is to indicate that General Wade has urged Guard officers to become acquainted with the military professional associations and that MOAA National (and in some cases the local chapter) offer a no-cost first year membership, just to give the officer a chance to see what the association is all about and what it does for National Guard personnel. Such a statement opens doors and quickly draws interest.
