SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL MEETING REQUIRES FULL PARTICIPATION
The Executive Committee (EXCOM) agenda and Council of Presidents program will be announced on or before October 29th.
The 2007 Annual Meeting event offers a full program for those attending the business meetings. Structured activities have been planned for spouses and guests who want to enjoy the beautiful California Central Coast and its attractions.
Most MOAA chapters in California have affiliated with the California Council of Chapters (CAL-MOAA). Chapters pay dues in the amount of $0.75 for each regular member as of December 31st.
They do it to pool their intellectual, financial, material, time and other resources in order to serve the military community by means of a statewide coordinated effort.
The Council supports MOAA National, plans and implements a state legislative platform, provides direct and indirect assistance to local chapters, and maintains liaison with other organizations sharing the same or similar goals and objectives.
According to the bylaws, it is the chapter presidents who have final authority and are responsible for directing the work of the EXCOM.
If the chapter presidents want to meet their expectations for representation to MOAA National, Washington D.C., and Sacramento, planning and implementation of events and activities, and communication with the chapters throughout the year, they must make their interests and needs known at this meeting.
Chapter presidents will support the Council best right now by attending the upcoming Annual Meeting set for San Luis Obispo.
If a chapter president absolutely cannot attend the meeting, a representative should be designated and dispatched to San Luis Obispo with written authority to vote for the chapter.
If a chapter cannot or will not send its president or a representative, it should meet its obligations by empowering the Area Director, by sending a written proxy to the meeting.
It will be extremely difficult for Council officials to do the business of the Council and plan for the future unless the affiliated chapters support the Annual Meeting.
The hotel reservation deadline is October 31st with the special rate granted after that date only on the basis of room availability–and the hotel is almost sold out now. Reservations should be made immediately by calling (805) 549-0800.
It is necessary to send a registration form with payment for meals no later than November 25th.. There is no charge for registration. To obtain the form, contact CDR John Sammons, USPHS (RET), Secretary, at e-mail secretarycalmoaa@gmail.com.
Attendance at the CAL-MOAA Annual Meeting is a business activitiy of the chapter. Many chapters support the president or representative by paying all or a part of the expenses incurred. Every effort is being made to provide a high quality conference and keep costs low, yet there is a significant expense involved.
Chapter presidents are urged to help make their Council’s Annual Meeting a success in 2007.
