WHY WE SERVE OUTREACH PROGRAM
Why We Serve is a speakers outreach program intended to re-connect the men and women of the United States Armed Forces with those they serve: The American people.
By hosting uniformed service members to speak about their individual experiences in the Long War, audiences around the country are offered a personal view on military service.
The Why We Serve speakers do not address issues of Department of Defense policy. Rather, each member relates his or her own experience in a manner that offers Americans a glimpse of military service as can only be seen through the eyes of our uniformed men and women.
Speakers represents the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force, and have recently returned from operations in Afghanistan, Iraq or the Horn of Africa. Audiences may therefore be assured that their representative experience is recent and relevant to the ongoing fight.
Community organizations, business associations, academic institutions, veterans groups, and other non-profit or non-partisan organizations may invite a speaker from Why We Serve by filling out the request link at the website. Confirmed speakers are provided at no cost to the host organization, regardless of location, throughout the country.
If you would like to request a speaker for your forum, please use the Why We Serve Request Form.

It doesn’t take a formal program to do this!
Last February, we had GySygt Eric Duane , USMCR, as a speaker - Marine Reservist, veteran of 3 tours in Anbar province as a Civil Affairs specialist.
He spoke on dealing with the Iraqis himself. He’s since been promoted to Warrant Officer, and is preparing to go back again.
This January, we’re having LtCol Marc Breslow, USA as speaker - he’s due back from Baghdad in December. He had retired from the Army and was the JROTC instructor at Kennedy High School here, volunteered to be recalled for a tour in Baghdad.
We’ve been printing his Palace Update emails in our newsletter.
