The California-South Committee of DoD’s ESGR will conduct its annual meeting and training conference at the Naval Amphibious Base on Coronado Island the end of January 2008. Hundreds of volunteers and staff will gather to receive updates and training to prepare for continued support of the reserve components of the US Armed Forces. An awards banquet
is included on Saturday evening, the 26th of January.

Founded in 1972, the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense agency established to promote cooperation and understanding between reserve components members and their civilian employers. Each state has a committee and because of the size of California, the Golden State has two, a committee in northern California and one in the
    southern part of the state.

“Almost 50 percent of the U.S. military is comprised of the National Guard and Reserve,” said Major General (Retired) Peter J. Gravett, Chairman of California-South Committee. “The DoD shares these citizen soldiers with their civilian employers and these volunteer forces deserve the support of every segment of our society.”

The ESGR is a liaison between the employee/citizen soldier and their employers. The ESGR seeks support from all identified employers and is an advocate for reserve component employers with the DoD.

All committee members are volunteers and acquire hundreds of hours of time with the ESGR in these efforts.
