BUDGET AND FINANCE COMMITTEE MEMBERS NAMED

In addition to Col Rita M. Solander, USAF-Ret, Treasurer, the following individuals have agreed to serve on the 2008 Budget and Finance Committee:

–Bill Gavitt, Past President and current Legislative Chair
–Mary Kalinyak, Treasurer, Monterey County Chapter
–Michael Kwan, Treasurer, Santa Barbara Chapter
–Larry Stumpf, Immediate Past President
–Bill Sturman, Immediate Past Director, Area 7

Col Solander will be included on he committee as an ex-officio voting member and will serve as Chair.

Ike Isensee, immediate past Treasurer, said he would assist in any way needed.

According to the bylaws, the committee shall:

–Within policies determined by the Executive Committee, and with the full coordination with the chairmen of all CAL-MOAA standing committees, prepare budgets for all CAL-MOAA activities to be approved by the Executive Committee at its autumn meeting.

In recent past actual practice, the budget has been prepared by the Treasurer with advice and consent of the Budget and Finance Committee members;

–Compute the recommended assessment required of each affiliated chapter to support the budget activities approved by the Executive Committee, based on the number of regular members in each such chapter on the last day of the year previous to the budget year. Monitor actual receipts and disbursements periodically in relation to the budget and propose ways and means to the Executive Committee to obtain more funds for CAL-MOAA activities without increasing the CAL-MOAA assessments.

In recent past actual practice, an invoice has been sent to all chapter presidents indicating that the chapters should make payment based on the current policy of $0.75 per regular member as of the previous December 31st.

The committee in 2008 might want to explore certain approaches to fundraising which will make expanded Council activities possible.

The Budget and Finance Committee has been constituted early in the year in order to provide general and direct support to the treasurer during a time of transition.
