WEST POINT GRADUTATE IN SERIOUS LEGAL TROUBLE
Captain Sargent Binkley, USA (RET), USMA 1997, has found himself in a pretty tight spot. He is facing 12-24 years for Armed Robbery.
Background information may be found at http://www.supportsarge.org/
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) will play a major role in the defense strategy. I am interested in talking with any graduate who specializes in PTSD either from a law or clinical background.

I’m sorry and with all due respect, I find it difficult to justify MOAA’s or Cal-MOAA’s involvement in a situation like this.
Mr. Ribotto:
Your comment sounded very perfunctory to me. Iassume you have not reviewed Capt. Sargent’s case.
Here is a man who grew up in a sound home with no criminal activity in his background. Otherwise, he would not have gotten where he did in life nor the Army. A good student, athlete, Eagle Scout, USMA graduate and an officer with a fine Service record. His problem began with his hip injury being misdiagnosed by the Army and put on an ineffective pain killer, and kept on it for 4 years without pain relief, thus addicting him! During that time, he developed PTSD compounding his problem. Driven by this condition, he robbed two drug stores for pain killers, harmed no one and turned himself in.
Since leaving the Army, a civilian operation has corrected his physical problem. He has been serving time and is now in drug rehab and doing some Community service work. However, the Santa Clara DA wants to send him away for 12 to 24 years. What kind of justice is that to bring a wounded Vet back into society? Capt. Sargent Binkley served his Country well, but the Army let him down and the Country, vice Santa Clara County, is about to desert it’s own - for what - vindictiveness!
Take another look here jribotto. This may help you some and maybe you can help Capt. Binkley too? Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch v=pZWN2D1yQbo and type in “Sargent Binkley” and bring up the video.
