STOP THE 10.6% MEDICARE/TRICARE CUT

Unless Congress acts, we’re only three months away from a 10.6% cut in Medicare and TRICARE payments to doctors. That would dramatically reduce the number of doctors willing to accept military and Medicare patients. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has introduced S. 2785, the ?Save Medicare Act of 2008?, to reverse the cuts and provide a 1.8% increase instead.

About This Legislation:

This bill would reverse a projected 10% cut in Medicare and TRICARE payments to doctors that otherwise would take place on July 1. Instead, the bill would authorize modest increases in payments to doctors for the remainder of 2008 and for 2009.

I’m writing to urge you to cosponsor S. 2785, the Save Medicare Act of 2008, which would reverse the proposed 10.6% cut in Medicare/TRICARE payments to doctors scheduled for July 2008 and replace it with a 1.8% payment increase.

The cuts in payments to doctors will devastate seniors’ and all military beneficiaries’ access to health care by encouraging even more doctors to stop seeing Medicare and military TRICARE patients. Military beneficiaries are affected even more severely because TRICARE rates are based on Medicare’s, and in many cases even discounted below Medicare’s.
