AWARD-WINNING WEBMASTER GLORIA CRANEY DIES APRIL 9TH

To all my mom’s friends and customers.

I regret to inform you that my mom (Gloria Craney) passed away on April 9, 2008 after suffering many complications from surgery. If any of you have a professional relationship with her regarding her being your webmaster, I would suggest that you seek alternate arrangements to ensure your websites are still maintained. My apologies for any troubles this may cause. If any of you wish to speak to me directly you may contact me at (760) 301-4751. Thank you.

      Dear Dava,
I never met your Mom, but her work was professional and imaginative. She set a high standard and for two consecutive years earned the “Best Web Site” Award from among the 33 Councils and 410 Chapters in the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) for her creation and maintenance of our cal-moaa.org web site. She will be sorely missed, professionally and personally. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.
      Sincerely,
      Bill Gavitt

      Hello, Dava!

For many of us, this has been an unexpected and very sad event.

I never had a chance to meet your mother in person but we sent e-mails back and forth on a continuing basis. She was a delightful lady. We will miss her very much.

All these past months and years, since she first established a website for the California Council of Chapters (CAL-MOAA), she has been faithful to teach us, counsel with us, and solve our various problems. We were delighted that she was first place winner in 2006 and more recently in 2007 of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) nationwide communications contest. The website she created was considered the best of all the state councils across the country.

In addition, she provided our website with a weblog feature, and with it again took first place nationwide in the communications category for unusual and innovative means of communication. Your announcement has been posted to the weblog and you can see it here:

Many of us knew little about her illness and we are indeed sad to learn of her passing. You and your family will be remembered in our prayers.

      Warren

Thanks Bill and Warren for your kind remarks to DAVA, the substance of which will be included in Gloria’s Obituary. Yesterday I spent over two hours at Gloria’s home downloading from her computer the cal-moaa.org website data, consisting of 6,201 files in 2,470 folders and totaling 104 MB size on disk. Back in mid 2005 when we first plunged into the Website project Gloria accepted my offer of $25.00 per month for her services. It wasn’t long before Treasurer Ike Isensee pointed out that was less than what others were charging per hour for comparable work. So in short time it was upped to $100.00 per month. However, It soon became apparent that Gloria’s effort were not for monetary gain alone, but her hours and hours of devotion to the site, came from a deep seated patriotism and respect for the California Members of the Military Officers Association of America.
I am grateful that I was personally able to announce to Gloria by phone that for the second time her efforts had resulted in A Best Website award from MOAA. Unfortunately, that was the last conversation that I had with her before her passing. She will be sorely missed. She was a wonderful woman.
