MORE RECOGNITION FOR COUNCILS AND CHAPTERS

Our council and chapter members work hard. That’s why we’re happy to announce we’ve developed two new ways to recognize MOAA council and chapter members’ outstanding performance.

First, we have a new MOAA Leadership Award for council and chapter officers who have made an exceptional contribution to their chapter, council, or to MOAA. The award is distinguished
by a special gold lapel pin and is awarded with a letter of congratulations from MOAA president Vice Adm. Norb Ryan Jr., USN-Ret. To nominate a fellow chapter or council member for this
award, please send a letter to:

Director, Department of Council and Chapter Affairs
    MOAA
    201 N. Washington St.
    Alexandria, VA 22314

Courtesy copies of the chapter’s nomination letters should be forwarded to council presidents in states where there is a council.

Second, a new MOAA Year of the Chapter coin was unveiled for the first time at the Council Presidents’ Seminar March 31 - April 3, 2008, in Alexandria, Va. This distinctive coin was presented or the first time to Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-N.C.), who was our guest speaker at the Council Presidents’ Dinner April 2. Council presidents and state representatives who participated in Storming the Hill also received the coins in recognition of their efforts.

The purpose of the coin is to enhance the importance of the Year of the Chapter and to recognize members of our chapter system and others who have contributed to the achievement of MOAA’s goals. These coins will be made available to MOAA leaders who visit councils and chapters and will provide them with a way to recognize significant contributions by council and chapter members on the spot.
