    HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN SALUTES THE TROOPS

    LOS ANGELES May 5, 2008

Jon Voight, James Caan and other celebrities are scheduled to serve lunch and camaraderie to 1200 veterans and their families, at the Hollywood Canteen Veterans Barbecue, on Sunday, May 18, at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration.

Hollywood Canteen is an innovation of The Beverly Hills Creative Arts Temple, which is working with the VA to bring in families from across Southern California for a memorable day of fun. Andrea Michaels’ Extraordinary Events is producing the affair, with a barbecue by Joann Roth-Oseary’s Someone’s In The Kitchen. Both companies have won multiple awards for their one-of-a-kind events.

“The veterans have unselfishly given of themselves — it’s about time we give something back,” remarked Rabbi Jerry Cutler, head of Creative Arts Temple, known as “an unorthodox congregation” with social service as part of its backbone. “The Canteen is not a political statement, it is a heartfelt, patriotic thing we do,” he added.

Hollywood Canteen is the brainchild the temple’s social action committee, led by the rabbi’s wife, Jeff Cutler and Joann Roth-Oseary. Last year they put on a fundraising dinner honoring veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan as well as members of the Wounded Warriors.

“No matter what your stand on the current war, when you meet the troops personally, you see how committed they are to our country, and how overlooked they are, and your heart melts,” remarked Jeff Cutler. “We wanted to do something to say Thank You.”

The committee became inspired by the famed Hollywood Canteen club that opened during World War II on Cahuenga Boulevard - where the most glamorous stars of the day volunteered to wait tables, cook and entertain the estimated three million soldiers who dropped in,
    completely free-of-charge.

Plans for the May 18th event include celebrities serving lunch, the energetic dance tracks of DJ Timbo, live music and comedy, children’s activities and Birdie Ball golf game. Donations are currently being accepted for the gift tent.

Hollywood Canteen begins at Noon on Sunday, May 18th, at the West Los Angeles VA, on the Quad near the Wadsworth Theater, 11301 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles 90073.

I am writing you to let you know that on May 18, the Creative Arts Temple is hosting a day of saying “Thank You” to our troops and their families for their dedication and service and we would like to invite you and your service people to join us.

The day will take place at West Los Angeles VA noon till 4PM. I’ve copied a press release into the body of this email and you can check out our website at creativeartstemple.org/hollywoodcanteen
      for more information.

It will be a most amazing day for all. We are inviting the Hollywood community to help serve the BBQ and hand out gifts to the soldiers and their families and we’re starting to get a wonderful response. We expect to host 1100 -1200 service people and their families. So, if you
and your people can make it, please let us know because we need to get a rough count of participants.

If you have any questions, you can either email me or call me at 818 728-8100.

      Ms. Jeff Cutler

      Friends of the Army:
Am forwarding this as a courtesy. Below is a full press release and an official invite to an event next weekend honoring our service members, sponsored here in LA hosted by Creative Arts Temple of Beverly Hills and by Jon Voight, James Caan & Other Celebs to ‘Serve the Troops’ at May 18 as well as Hollywood Canteen for 1200 Vets & their Families.

Please pass the word. It appears not to be a religious or political statement, but simply about honoring service men and women and those they love. Not a bad way for a Soldier and his/her Family to spend a Sunday afternoon. Should you want/need more information, contact info is provided below. Thank you all very much. Have a wonderful weekend.
