WWRE is an Open House and family event sponsored by the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce and the California National Guards Joint Forces Training Base(JFTB). All activities will take place on the flight line on Los Alamitos Army Airfield (KSLI).
The highlight of WWRE will be the appearance of the US Army’s Golden Knights. The Golden Knights, also known as the Army’s Ambassadors, are the worlds premiere military precision parachute jump demonstration team. These airborne soldiers will jump into the airfield on Sunday afternoon. This is their first time at Los Alamitos.
On display will be military aircraft, helicopters, radio controlled airplanes, military and public safety equipment, warbirds and many cars. Aircraft flyovers are planned including an appearance by the Goodyear Blimp, Spirit of America, along with airplane static displays including a USAF Reserve C17 among others.
Wings Wheels & Rotors will have various civilian and public safety helicopters with fire, police and military rotorcraft including the media aircraft seen daily in the skies around SoCal will be on display for all visitors. Along with the airplanes and warbirds are helicopter flights in civilian “choppers” for a small fee and free flights in general aviation airplanes by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles for youth interested in aviation between 8 and 17 years of age.
The largest event will be a huge car show including The Learning Channels Overhaulin with cars displayed from the TV show by world-renowned car designer Chip Foose. There will be many events for the family. Additionally, there will be food, including breakfast, music, vendors, displays, demonstrations, flybys and other activities.
Proceeds to also go to the military Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) funds for armed forces personnel on the base. Vendor space and sponsors opportunities are still available. Both admission and parking are free. Donations accepted. Open to the public. Picture I.D required for entrance to the JFTB.
