SW RIVERSIDE COUNTY PRESIDENT TO SERVE AS COUNCIL SECRETARY
It is a pleasure to welcome CWO2 T Michael Bircumshaw, USN (RET) as the new CAL-MOAA Secretary. The appointment is effective November 1, 2009.
He replaces CDR John Sammons, USPHS (RET), who becomes State Director, Area 2, effective October 24, 2009.
Birgraphy
T Michael Bircumshaw is a retired U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer.
He was born in Alhambra, California and graduated (albeit 15 years behind his HS class) from Redlands High School in Redlands, California. He has an Associates and a Bachelors Degree from the University of Maryland, a teaching certificate from the University of Alabama, and completed his Masters Graduate studies at the University of Northern Colorado.
He served on active duty from 1956 - 1976 spending half of his career in Submarines. He acquired 17 1/2 years of Sea duty and spent the majority of his career deployed, operating out of or stationed in Europe, Great Britain, the Middle East, and Asia. Stateside he managed to squeeze in the West Coast, the East Coast, and Great Lakes, Illinois. His final Sea Duty tour was on the Combined Staff of Commander Middle East Force as the Director of Human Resources Management.
His civilian life has included time in the motion picture industry, major item leasing agent, and as a manufacturing consultant.
From 1984-1988 Michael designed and presented Substance Use and Abuse programs to schools and industry and served as the Chairman of the Multiple District 4 Drug Awareness program for Lions International in California and Nevada.
From 1988-2002 he was the Editor-Publisher of an English language newspaper in Mexico.
Michael is the President of the South West Riverside County chapter of MOAA.
He is actively involved in the United States Submarine Veterans Inc. (USSVI) and is currently the USSVI National Vice Commander and USSVI National Membership chairman (13,427 members). He is the Editor & Publisher of the official USSVI magazine “American Submariner”.
He is a loan officer and specialist in Reverse Mortgages for Oaktree Funding. Michael is scheduled to soon receive his commission as a California Notary Public, having taken the courses and passed the state tests in September.
Michael has been married to his wife, Susana for 21 years and has lived in Temecula since 2002. His daughter, Sasha, graduated from Chaparral High School in 2007 and is currently a Junior at Cal State San Marcos.
