San Luis Obispo In Late Autumn

RELATIVELY LOW COST ANNUAL MEETING 30 Nov-2 Dec 2007

It’s one thing to set a conference in downtown Hollywood with all its glitter and high costs.

And it’s another to set one in a gorgeous Central Coast college town, in this case San Luis Obispo, with its beauty and much lower costs.

The Council of Presidents will be conducting its annual meeting late this year at the Embassy Suites Hotel, San Luis Obispo. And relatively speaking, the costs are going to be very reasonable indeed. continue reading

    Annual Meeting Agenda

    INFORMATION-GIVING AND DECISION-MAKING OPTIONS

Once each year the Council of Presidents conducts the Annual Meeting of the Corporation with the primary purpose being to review for approval or modification the actions of the president and EXCOM since the last meeting of the Council.

In 2007 the meeting will be conducted November 30-December 2 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in San Luis Obispo. The event will begin Friday evening with an EXCOM meeting and continue with all day Saturday sessions and culminating with an evening banquet. Sunday morning will include an informal breakfast and departure.

The Council is expected to explore and review a variety of themes and issues beyond issuing orders and instructions to the EXCOM. The affiliated chapter presidents have a major role to play, being responsible in large part for creation of an appropriate and all-inclusive agenda.

This is an invitation to all participants, and issued well in advance of the late November meeting, to help identify the nature of the meeting in terms of both process and content. With full cooperation, the meeting will meet the interests, needs, and overall expectations of presidents and attending chapter members. continue reading

    Annual Meeting Planning

ALL MUST CONTRIBUTE TO SAN LUIS OBISPO AGENDA

The EXCOM is moving ahead with planning for the November 30-Dec 1, 2 2007 Council of Presidents meeting in San Luis obispo.

Of primary concern right now is preparation of an effective agenda, and for that assistance is needed by everyone.

These are some of the things we know:

Generally, people will look forward to any meeting that they attend, routine or not routine, if:

–They view attendance at a meeting as an opportunity to achieve personal goals and to satisfy their special needs or wants, and

–The believe that the meeting will contribute something toward achieving the goals of their organization, specifically affiliated chapters.

It’s important to give everyone an opportunity to provide input to the agenda, and we’re starting early so there will be plenty of time to do that. continue reading

    A New Order of Things

SAN LUIS OBISPO ANNUAL MEETING WILL STRESS INNOVATION

“There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.” Niccolo Machiavelli

EXCOM members and chapter presidents who attend the upcoming November 30-December 2, 2007 Council of Presidents annual meeting in San Luis Obispo will be able to explore creativity, innovation, and planned change in formal and informal sessions alike.

In this sense, change is a transition from one state, condition, or phase to another. To cause to be different. Indeed, it’s important to make a difference. continue reading

    Destination: San Luis Obispo

MANY GOOD REASONS TO ATTEND LATE 2007 ANNUAL MEETING

The Council of Presidents has set this year’s annual meeting for the Embassy Suites Hotel, San Luis Obispo, November 30-December 2, 2007, in order to carry out the bylaws-mandated session where chapter presidents “shall review for approval or modification the actions of the president and Executive Committee (EXCOM) since the last meeting of the Council.”

More important perhaps, the presidents will have an opportunity to determine the Council’s direction for calendar year 2008, presenting the EXCOM with updated goals and objectives to be pursued and achieved in the near to intermediate future.

In short, then, the annual meeting will be a time for assessment and operational planning. continue reading

COUNCIL MEETS IN SAN LUIS OBISPO NOVEMBER 30-DECEMBER 1-2

The Council of Presidents will conduct its annual meeting at the Embassy Suites Hotel, San Luis Obispo, from Friday evening to Sunday morning, November 30-December 1-2, 2007.

Some weeks ago an alert was put out recommending that presidents with specific interests, desires, or wishes for the program content or process should start to make their needs known soon.

We’re pleased to say that there have been some recommendations, and specifically for the kinds of speakers to be invited, and particularly for Saturday evening banquet speaker.

There are some very interesting personalities who are likely to accept an invitation to speak and otherwise spend time in the business and social sessions. continue reading

    Area Meetings

SUMMER, EARLY AUTUMN GOOD TIME FOR AREA COORDINATION

According to the bylaws, “Area subdivisions of the Council exist to provide a convenient forum for meetings of affiliated chapters between Council meetings.”

The purpose of such meetings is to communicate significant actions of the Executive Committee (EXCOM) and to prepare Area Directors for subsequent Executive Committee (EXCOM) meetings.

The latest Executive Committee (EXCOM) meeting was held May 19th in conjunction with the Chapter Presidents Leadership Workshop at Vandenberg AFB. At that time it was decided to hold the next meeting on November 30th, the start of the Council of Presidents annual meeting set this year for San Luis Obispo.

The next few months might be a good time to schedule area meetings at some central location and at a time convenient at least to most chapter presidents. It might be useful to get better acquainted, review some of the highlights of the Chapter Presidents Leadership Workshop, identify issues important to chapter members and potential courses of action, share what works and what doesn’t–a best practices session, and in general coordinate activities in advance of the upcoming November 30-December 2, 2007 annual meeting. continue reading
