    Healing Light Institute

FIRST PROGRAM SET FOR SQUAW VALLEY DECEMBER 12TH

We finally got our first venue! Healing Light Inst will be in Squaw Valley, Dec 12, 2009, for our first program, similar to the Welcome Home Initiatives and Stand Downs, but with a clinic-care focus. NO parades, politics or speeches - just healing, connecting, advising and nurturing the soul of broken warriors.

Although the focus is on Vietnam Veterans, who have been “forgotten” by the system, this is for ALL veterans who have served at any time for the USA. IF you know of a Veteran in the area who could be in Tahoe for this date, please pass this on to them. We intend to hold thisonce a month (the second event is in January, 2010, in Auburn, California) somewhere in the Sacramento region - if the Veteran can’t make this one, there will be other chances!

Please pass this on to all your military members! If this reaches an office that is in error, please pass this on to the Wounded Warrior segment of your chapter that is appropriate - thanks so much! continue reading

    Makin Island

SHIP TO BE COMMISSIONED SATURDAY, AUGUST 24TH, IN SAN DIEGO

The Navy will commission the amphibious assault ship Makin Island, Saturday, Oct. 24, during a 10 a.m. PDT ceremony at North Island Naval Air Station, Coronado, Calif.

Makin Island is named for the daring raid carried out by Marine Corps Companies Alpha and Bravo, Second Raider Battalion, on the Japanese-held Makin Island, in the Gilbert Islands, on Aug. 17-18, 1942.

The raid was launched from the submarines USS Nautilus and USS Argonaut and succeeded in routing the enemy forces based there, gaining valuable intelligence.

Twenty-three Navy Crosses were awarded for actions during the raid, including to the raid’s leader, Marine Corps Lt. Col. Evans Carlson, and executive officer, Marine Corps Maj. James Roosevelt (son of President Franklin Roosevelt). Marine Corps Sgt. Clyde Thomason was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for heroism during the raid and was the first enlisted Marine to be so honored during World War II. continue reading

    Extraordinary Speaker

ALAMEDA COUNTY CHAPTER PROPOSES JOINT AREAS 1 AND 2 MEETING

Below is a notice of the Alameda County Chapters’ November 10th meeting. It will be a fascinating and informative meeting. Professor Johnson is a worlds expert on the Taliban - and isn’t that a pertinent subject for today.

Please circulate this among as many of your members as you can - having heard Professor Johnson no one will be disappointed.

The room at Coast Guard Island seats 150 and we hope to fill it. You can’t beat the meal cost $4.25. We are asking all MOAA members except active duty to pay $15.00 to help us defray costs and, since we are a new chapter, need to build our treasury a little.

Anyone interested give me a call (415) 897 5845 or drop me an email at accmoaa@gmail.com and I will send directions to the island. If anyone wants to spend the night I will see if I can get a government rate at a good motel just outside the CG Island Gate.

    Central Coast Veterans Cemetery

    STRATEGY MEETING COMING SEPTEMBER 4TH

The meeting with Congressman Sam Farr to discuss the CCVC will now take place at CSUMB as noted. See agenda below.

If you would like to receive the latest information on what our options might be following the failure of the City of Seaside effort to sell the ‘Endowment Parcel’ (and therefore NO prospects of gathering sufficient funds for the State of California to provide for the necessary operating and maintenance funds required to establish a State Cemetery) please join us at this meeting.
