GOVERNMENT TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE (GTC) WEST 2008

OK, I will be the first to admit the Government Technology Conference commonly known as GTC West 2008 is not (a massive military conference) but…

It is nearby, very BIG, and the workshops are many. The information/exhibit booths fill the Sacramento Convention Center Exhibit Hall. The speakers are known in the realm of Information Technology. Then there is the opportunity to see and hear Governor Schwarzenegger. For networking, it provides wonderful opportunities. Oh,did I mention there is no charge to attend the keynote speakers’ presentations and visit the exhibits? Simply register. All in all, it is a big deal with attendees from throughout the state and nearby states.

    Area 2 Joint Meeting

MOAA DAY ON THE HORNET SURE TO BE SPECTACULAR EVENT

    Greetings fellow MOAA members,

On behalf of the seven chapters that comprise CAL-MOAA Area 2, I want to thank the CAL-MOAA Executive Committee for their vote in favor of a CAL-MOAA guarantee of a maximum of $300.00 toward making MOAA DAY ON THE HORNET a success. You have expressed your confidence and trust that Area 2 will do its best to make this Event a success for MOAA, CAL-MOAA and our Chapters.

To my knowledge, a regional event of this magnitude has not been tried, at least in my neck of the woods. But, we are giving it our best shot!!!

Each one of you can help to make this a successful event. HOW??? By talking it up amongst your MOAA friends, contacts, etc. who may live in Northern California and be within reasonable driving distance of the Hornet. I have attached the official flyer covering this Event. Feel free to reproduce it and send it on to someone who might enjoy a fun MOAA DAY ON THE HORNET. continue reading

    Area 2 Joint Luncheon

CARRIER HORNET SITE FOR AUGUST 8th MEETING

Area 2 Director CAPT Jim Torres, USN (RET) wrote in a February 2nd e-mail, “We did it!!!!! Nearly all the pieces are in place. Our Bay Area ‘MOAA Day on the Hornet’ is a go.”

This long anticipated event has been set for early August, a month when many chapters are silent and do not hold lunchon or dinner meetings. It will be held aboard the USS Hornet Museum at the former Alameda Naval Air Station, Oakland/Alameda.

The event is going to be open to all 4,000+ MOAA members within the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas but with specific focus on members and guests of the seven Area 2 chapters. A flyer will be prepared giving all the details and should be ready for distribution to chapter members in early spring. The price is expected to be between $20 and $30 depending on the number of attendees.

After a mid-morning arrival members will be escorted on a docent-led tour of the ship, followed by lunch and a speaker. Later, members can continue with a self-guided tour of the ship and depart when they desire. continue reading
