    ADJUTANT GENERAL SUPPORTS ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP

In a letter directed to California National Guard personnel 15 March 2007, Major General William H. Wade II, the Adjutant General, suggested it would be useful to become acquainted with and support a military professional association.

His statement should be helpful when approaching National Guard officers for membership, demonstrating that membership in such organizations is appropriate and has value.

Here is General Wade’s letter: continue reading

VIRGINIA COUNCIL OF CHAPTERS (VCOC) LEADS NATION

The Virginia Council of Chapters led the nation in 2006 with 554 new members recruited under the Give Me 10! program.

Key to this success was a decision by the council leadership to support the Give Me 10! program.

The council president, Bill Flanagan took to heart MOAA president VADM Norb Ryan”s appeal to each council president to participate in Give Me 10! Next he asked the council membership chairman, Paul Mehler to provide information and support to the 15 VA chapters. continue reading

    Give Me 10! Field Report

HOW MOUNT VERNON (VA) CHAPTER ACHIEVED SUCCESS

The Mount Vernon Chapter (VA) used bulk mailings as their primary means for getting new MOAA members and reached more than 2500 prospects living in their zip code areas. The chapter took advantage of low bulk mail rates for 200 or more pieces and used computer software to automate the process along with a low cost mail house to stuff envelopes before mailing.

The return rate on their mailings ran 2%.

The chapter offered a one year free chapter membership as an additional incentive. They estimate a 55% retention rate for members recruited.

Chapter members also participated in a Welcome Home ceremony for the 6th Training Brigade of the 80th Reserve Division, returning from an Iraq deployment. The chapter helped sponsor a picnic for the troops and their families and ended up recruiting 16 unit members into their chapter.

Like other successful chapters, personal contact and telephone calls to officers known by chapter members delivered results. The chapter was tops in its size category by recruiting 73 new MOAA members in 2006.
