    Keeping the Promise 2008

    CALIFORNIA DISABLED VETERANS FACE OPPORTUNITIES

    More than 1000 one-to-one Œbusiness matchmaking¹ sessions were accomplished during the 17th Annual ³Keeping the Promise 2008² business expo. From across California, the non-profit Disabled Veterans Business Alliance (DVBE) brought disabled veteran entrepreneurs face-to-face with corporate and government business leaders in Irvine. For two days, April 15-16, hundreds of veteran-owned, and certified DVBE vendor companies met with procurement and supplier diversity professionals seeking contract opportunities for a wide range of goods and services.

    DVBE Alliance exists to help veterans become certified, create businesses and secure opportunity. Alliance President Robert Brown, says, ³Our motto is, Šserving together again. The creativity, skills and discipline veterans bring to the workplace are key to realizing their opportunity.² Certified disabled veteran businesses are guaranteed by law contract participation

    Torrance Honors Armed Forces

    49th ANNUAL ARMED FORCES CELEBRATION

    Torrance, California
    April 7, 2008

    The City of Torrance continues its long-standingtradition on May 17, 2008 as it hosts its 49th Annual Armed Forces Day Celebrationand Parade. The City, one of few cites designated by the Department of Defense, will once again honor the men and women of our nation’s military with a three-day celebration beginning on Friday, May 16 continuing through Sunday, May 18 with the Parade highlight on Saturday, May 17 that will begin at 1:30 p.m. During this weekend, the following events that will occur in the City:

    Military Exhibits: Military exhibits on display, including aircrafts, vehicles, support equipment at the Del Amo Fashion Center parking lot between Acapulco & Macy’s (previously Robinson’s May) on May 16 & 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on May 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

    Free Concert: The United States Marine Corps 1st Marine Division Band will perform for free at the James Armstrong Theatre on May 16 at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. continue reading

    CALIFORNIA DISABLED VETERAN’S BUSINESS ENTERPRISE ALLIANCE

    The 17th annual business symposium “Keeping the Promise 2008″ brings veteran and disabled veteran entrepreneurs face-to-face with corporate and government business leaders. In two days, hundreds of veteran-owned, and certified DVBE vendor companies will meet with procurement and supplier diversity professionals seeking contract (OPPORTUNITIES) for (A WIDE RANGE OF) goods and services.

    “Keeping the Promise 2008″ begins with corporate and government plenary sessions on Tuesday April 15, from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Irvine Hyatt Regency. Over 100 Expo exhibitors will be featured the panel discussions provide answers to many of the tough questions facing our
    disabled veteran and veteran business professionals.

    Certified disabled veteran businesses are guaranteed by law contract participation goals with regulated utilities, State and Federal agencies and many private industry contracts for goods and services. In California, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger strengthened State government goals by signing SB 115 into law in 2006. T he non-profit DVBE Alliance exists to help veterans become certified, create businesses and obtain their goals.     Journey Beyond Tomorrow

    LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE RETIREE EXPO

    Los Angeles Air Force Base, 413 Aviation Boulevard, El Segundo, proudly announces its annual Retiree Benefits EXPO to be held Saturday, April 19th, 2008 from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m.

    Titled “Journey Beyond Tomorrow”, the EXPO will feature information from local community businesses, LAAFB organizations, and Federal agencies, including Century 21, Triwest, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Army and Air Force Exchange Service, Defense Commissary Agency and many others. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and dispense information.

    Food will be available in addition to drawings for prizes followed by a Bingo game. Parking will be available. Department of Defense and Military Retirees with valid ID’s are advised to use the
    Douglas Street gate.
