    New Bakersfield Cemetery

JONES NAMED FIRST DIRECTOR OF NEW NATIONAL CEMETERY

WASHINGTON - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has named the national cemetery to be constructed near Bakersfield, Calif., the “Bakersfield VA National Cemetery.”

“Our newest national cemetery in California will be a national shrine, honoring the service of veterans in the Golden State,” said Dr. James B. Peake, Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

The new cemetery is located on a 500-acre site donated by Tejon Ranch, a 426-square-mile agricultural and industrial complex along Interstate 5 in Kern County. The new cemetery will serve approximately 200,000 veterans in central California who are not currently provided burial
space by a nearby national or state veterans cemetery.

VA selected Wesley R. Jones as the first director of the cemetery, and he begins his duties immediately.

Jones began his career with VA in 2004. Before being selected for this new position, he was the director at Santa Fe National Cemetery and the Bath/Woodlawn (New York) National Cemetery Complex. Before joining VA, Jones was the director of the state of Delaware’s Veterans Memorial
Cemetery System and managed two cemeteries that interred more than 800 people each year. Jones retired from the U.S. Army in 1990 and is a Vietnam veteran. continue reading

    RAYTHEON PLANS BAR-BE-QUE

    Hello everyone,

I wanted to invite you and current members of the military to attend a Bar-b-que at Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems, on Saturday, 19 April 2008 at 11:30 AM.

This event is our second annual fundraiser for the California “Run For the Wall” participants. Last year, there were vendors, music, a lot of Harley Davidson’s, Vietnam Vets, a Korean POW, and Gulf War Veterans, plus great grub for the guests. This year, the memorial car “Fueled by
the Fallen”, has been added, The car memorializes every Marine that has been killed in action while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Please spread the word to our troops that they are invited to attend (free of charge), and to wear their uniform. It is fine to bring their family members as well.

The goal of this event is to honor those who have served, and those who are currently serving our country.

To register, and if you have any questions, contact: dlopresto@raytheon.com
